Western Helicopters is providing helicopter instrument training for either an initial instrument rating, or an additional rating for those pilots already rated in airplanes. Federal regulations permit up to 50% of the initial instrument training may be performed in a simulator or flight training device that is approved by the FAA for instrument instruction.
The requirement for the initial rating is 40 hours in the category aircraft. For an additional rating, the requirement is 15 hours of instruction in the category of aircraft. A simulator or training device will not be accepted towards this requirement. Training will use the Schweizer 300C instrument training aircraft and an ATC 112H instrument-training device.
